I enjoy reading magazines and although I read most of them in the public library, I do subscribe to a few. The problem is that my pack rat tendencies just go into overdrive when I look at a magazine full of thrifty decorating ideas or possible garden plants or recipes I just have to try and I can’t throw it away. I always end up with Mt. Magazine – a pile of good intentions and somedays. I have actually packed and moved boxes of magazines. True confession.

I recently discovered the website Coverleaf – you can read your magazines online, clip pages from your magazines virtually, and organize those clips into groups. Translation: no piles of paper sitting on my desk that I mean to file someday, and no more trying to find that article on whatsit that I saw sometime.

Once you sign up (free) you can search for the magazines that you subscribe to. You’ll need to provide some information from your mailing label to verify that you are a paid subscriber. You can immediately see all back issues that are covered by your subscription, and you’ll get emails when each new issue becomes available online. You can click on article titles from the online table of contents, or flip pages as if you’re reading the magazine.

As you read your magazine you can clip pages you want to save and organize them into clipping groups, or subjects. I have groups for gardening ideas, dinner recipes, baking recipes, projects to do, decorating ideas… you get the gist. It’s easy to add a new page clipping to a clipping group.

So now although I still get several magazines in the mail, I read them, mark what I’m interested in and go save it on the coverleaf website, then toss the magazine in the recycle bin. No more Mt. Magazine teetering on my coffee table.

It’s a good thing. (Am I allowed to say that, or does she have that trademarked?) Anyway, it is.

That is so cool. We have so many magazine subscriptions it isn’t even funny. Naturally I got them all free, but I would still love to be able to save the article online instead of having the paper cluttering up my house.

I have read about this in my family fun magazine, and meant to check it out. I think I’ll head over there now. I love to keep good stuff from my favorite magazines!
